L-R Chief John Okiyi Kalu, the Hon. Commissioner, ministry of information and Elder Ieanyi Agbai, the permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Abia state
The Commissioner for Information, Hon. John Okiyi made this call on Wednesday during his maiden meeting with the staff of the Ministry and Information Officers at the Ministry's headquarters, Nnamdi Azikiwe Secretariat, Ogurube layout, Umuahia.

He described Information Officers as key to the success of the Ikpeazu led administration.

The commissioner emphasized the need for Information Officers in the State to inform people properly, especially in the three major focus areas of 'made-in-Aba'  campaign, social re-orientation of the Abia populace and the 'caterpillar revolutions' of the Ikpeazu led administration, which is geared towards constructing long-lasting  roads in the State.

He announced that there would be training and retraining of Information Officers so that they would improve and function optimally.

The Commissioner, who called for Information Officers to be proactive, regretted that there were cases that would have been prevented had the information managers were proactive.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Elder Ifeanyi Agbai said that the essence of the meeting was for the Commissioner to interact with the officers, with a view to receiving  first-hand information from them on the challenges they face in the field.

He said the Commissioner has broken record by summoning the officers to address them barely a week he assumed office and reassured the Commissioner of the unalloyed cooperation of management and staff of the Ministry.

Some Officers, who spoke at meeting, including the Abia N. U. J Chairman and Director of Information, Comrade John Emejor, Mr. Uzoma Isiakpu, Mrs. Tina Ikwuegbu, Sir Ralph Igbokwe among others told the Commissioner that funds, incentives, public light in the headquarters, creation of email accounts for the officers to be sending their reports and press releases as well as revitalizing the home press among other issues would help the officers to perform effectively.

In a vote thanks, the Public Relations Officer, Office of the Head of Service, Lady Adaeze Ralph-Igbokwe assured the Commissioner that the staff were ready to align with him to publicize the policies and activities of Abia State government and take the State to higher heights.
