Abia Newspaper set to commence online and daily evening publications

A new vista is set to dawn in media/information management in Abia state as the state owned National Ambassador Newspaper is set to commence an online and daily evening publications.


The pragmatic and result oriented Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu who disclosed this during his maiden visit to the Corporation stated that both publications are starting off immediately and directed the instant upgrading of the Newspaper website and training of staff in that regard.

He stated that the commencement of both publications will be a novelty in the Southeast and South-South zones as such will be the first state owned publication to do both online and evening tabloid.

According to him, the measures were aimed at ensuring adequate information dissemination in the state as era of rumour mongering and flying of half baked information are over in the state.

The Commissioner said the citizenry need to be adequately informed and reorientated on the achievements, policies, programmes and workings of the govt to achieve sustainable development and an enlightened society. He disclosed that the new vision would ensure that the publications are easily accessible to educate and enlightened the people adequately of govt policies and programmes.

Kalu further promised to ensure that henceforth the newspaper received adequate government attention and frowned at a situation whereby many government establishments takes their tenders and other publications to newspapers houses outside the state and assured that such would stop.

He stated that the reposition of the newspaper would make it more attractive and result oriented to be effective in information dissemination and in ensuring that the vision were achieved

Earlier, the General Manager of the Corporation, Prince Tony Onyeomerenche has enumerated some of the challenges facing the organization ranging from lacking of printing machine and other working tools, funds to maintain regular weekly publication, low patronage from govt establishments among others and appeal to the Commissioner to assist them in overcoming the challenges.
