MWAN congratulates Ahukannah on his reappointment as the Hon. commissioner for health (PHOTOS)





An affiliate body of the Nigerian Medical Association, Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN) Abia state chapter have congratulated Dr. Gozie John Ahukannah on his reappointment as the commissioner for health Abia state.

The state president Dr. Mrs uche Chika L led executive members said this when they paid a courtesy visit to the commissioner in his office
at Abia state ministry of health, Nnamdi Azikiwe Secretariat,  Umuahia.

They maintained that, Dr Ahukannah's reappointment speaks volumes of his dedication and faithfulness to the vision of His Excellency Dr.Okezie ikpeazu. They said that his close relationship and commitment to his colleagues especially their  parent body "Nigeria Medical Association" has been noted and appreciated by them.


Presenting their address, the President of the  association, Dr Uche Chika said that  MWAN is a nongovernmental ,non political, non sectarian,non profit making professional organization of Medical and Dental women in Nigeria.

She said, "we focus more on the projects that will enhance the health of women,young girls,children and society at large . we had organized cervical cancer screening for women using VIA method and Pap smear in 2014and 2015 respectively. In 2016 MWAN collaborated with Nigerian society for Engineers where about 100 women were screened for breast cancer ,out of which 12womem benefitted from Mammogram."

 Dr Chika informed the commissioner that ,last year, in their  collaborated with ABSUTH for a cancer awareness program, which about 105 women were initially screened using clinical Breast self Examination, 12 women were discovered to be having suspicious breast  lumps out of which 8 benefited from further screening with ultrasound.

"The passion our association has for the youth led us to a program titled "Say no to Drug Abuse, its a destiny destroyer" .The program has been carried out in secondary schools which include Boys technical college, Sacred heart college (SARHACO),  Osusu boys secondary school, etc, she said ."

 Dr. Mrs uche Chika who will be installed as our culture as 2017–2019 biennial president of MWAN Abia State on the 18th of December 2017 said the association will also use the opportunity to honour  the fruit lady as the matron of the association ,unveil as well as launch her 2017–2019 biennial projects which include building MWAN house for cancer screening and other screening programs , community development involving building four toilets and sinking a bore_hole in a community secondary school etc .

They used the opportunity to invite the commissioner as their  special guest in that occasion.


 Presenting  the immediate past president, Dr. Nwamuo State general secretary, Dr. Urukwu State treasurer, Dr. Eweputanna  PRO, Dr. Erukeme Ugu Young doctors coordinator, Dr.kasarachi Omitiran Past president, Dr Iwuoha as the new executive members, Dr. Chika assured the commissioner of their collaboration in ensuring his vision for women and children in this state is achieved.

While thanking them for their visit and felicitations, the Hon Commissioner commended them for their selfless services to Abians in particular and humanity in general.

 He noted their ongoing activities, particularly in areas of collaboration in Cervical Cancer screening for our women and drugs and substance abuse especially in our adolescents.

He also called on the Association to come partner with Government in providing care for the mentally challenged in the society, noting that The Abia State Govt under the able leadership of H.E Okezie Victor Ikpeazu Ph.D is poised to revive The Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital in Mgboko and the Psychiatric Nursing School in Umunnato.
