Port Harcourt road will be ready in record time, @GovernorIkpeazu assures traders
The Governor of Abia State, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, has assured traders and Aba business community that Port Harcourt Road, where reconstruction work is about to commence, will be ready in record time as his administration and the contractor handling the project (Setraco) have agreed on terms that will ensure speedy work on the 6km road.
The Governor gave the assurance during a civic reception organized in his honour by the members of Confectionaries & Allied Products Market Association, Market Road Aba branch.
Speaking at the event, Governor Ikpeazu who pleaded for the support of the traders, also assured them his administration will do everything for them to relocate to the permanent site at Orieohabiam Market along Port Harcourt Road.
He also promised that in the coming days the four Chairmen of the different associations that make up the Confectionaries & Allied Products Market Association will accompany him to inspect the level of reconstruction work along Port Harcourt Road Aba as well as the Orieohabiam Market.
He disclosed that Setraco Construction Company was ready to start work along Port Harcourt road this dry season as the construction giants have commenced moving necessary equipment and materials to the area following the release of N2b to them by the state government.
The Governor also used the opportunity to inform residents of Aba that the drainage work from Ifeobara basin through Faulks road to Aba waterside has been completed by Setraco and explained that with this development the flooding challenge along Faulks road and Ariaria, that defied remedial efforts by previous administrations in the state will become a thing of the past.
According to Governor Ikpeazu; "I am pleased to inform our people that Setraco was able to pump out water from Ifeobara to Aba River (Waterside) and that marks a major milestone in our efforts to end flooding along Faulks road and preserve the longevity of the road which is under reconstruction".
Governor Ikpeazu disclosed that by December this year his administration expects to have completed the implementation of street lights along Aba-Owerri road and promised to sustain the current tempo of infrastructure development works in Aba and entire Abia State to support trade and commerce.
In his address, the member representing Aba South Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Honorable Clinton Ebere, stated that the members of the Confectionaries & Allied Products Market Association were happy with the efforts of the Governor in fixing Aba roads.
Honorable Clinton who assured the Governor that the members of the association will vote no other party in future elections in the State other than the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) pleaded with the Governor to ensure that Port Harcourt road is completely fixed within the projected 24 months.
Earlier, the Chairman of Confectionaries & Allied Products Market Association, Mr. Edison Ukeh, expressed appreciation to the Governor for reconstructing the roads leading to their shops and other adjoining streets that the traders and their customers use.
The Chairman assured the Governor that the members are solidly behind his "second to non administration" and promised to ensure each trader gets voter's card to reward the Governor and his party In all future elections.
