Mrs Ikpeazu extols Abia women for their good initiative at fostering unity, progress
Abia State women in Lagos under the auspices of the Abia State Town Unions Association Women’s Wing, Lagos State branch, have been extolled for their good initiative at fostering unity, progress and their well being.
Deaconess Nkechi Ikpeazu, the wife of the Abia State governor, who gave the commendation to the women at their maiden outing and launching of their customised uniform in Lagos, enjoined them to love, respect their husbands and their in-laws, even as she urged them to bridle their tongues in order to have peaceful marriages and homes.
Mrs Ikpeazu, who was represented by Mrs. Nnenna Obewu-Onwuka, the immediate-past state Commissioner for Transport and now the Director General, Abia Women Mobilisation, solicited the women’s support and prayers for the success of the Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu administration, which she said, had been doing a lot to reposition the state.
She also urged the Ngwa women to speak to their husbands to throw their full weight behind Ikpeazu’s second term bid as other past administrations had their second term, describing the governor as their brother.
Mrs. Ikpeazu, therefore, pleaded with the people not to listen to listen to what she termed as the propaganda of detractors, by working against her husband’s continuation in office after his first term.
She said her office has continued to affect the lives of indigent widows, as more than 150 houses has been built for them, even as disclosed that scholarships were given to students of poor parents, while hospital bills of some women, were also being paid.
Mrs. Ikpeazu pledged her continued support to the programmes of Abia women in Lagos, even as she unveiled their customised Uniform.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Abia State Ministry of Information, Elder Ifeanyi Agbai, and the Director General, Broadcasting Corporation of Abia State (BCA), Sir Uchenna Dike, who was represented by Ruth Sunday, the agency’s correspondent in Lagos State, commended the women on their achievements, enjoining them to be good examples to their children and good ambassadors of the state.
Chief Chidi Ajaegbu, the chairman on the occasion, enjoined the women to come up with projects that could impact on lives in 2018 and de-emphasise frivolities, while assuring them of his support for the realisation of such projects.
Dr Mrs Chinwe Okafor, the guest speaker and a retired Commissioner of Police, said: “A good wife builds her home with her character and words. But, a foolish wife scatters her home with her mouth. Women should not only be wives, but good wives to their husbands and good mothers to their children and the society at large.”
Chief Mrs. Nkechinyere Alaribe, the President of Abia State Town Unions Association, Lagos, Women’s Branch, said the association had knitted the members and fostered socio-economic aspirations, adding that the group had been able to organise seminars, free medical outreaches, free eye tests, with eye glasses given out, breast cancer screening with free self-examination pads distributed, as well as empowerment programmes for women.
“I call on her Excellency, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu today to include Abia Women in Lagos in all her programme as we are always in touch with the Abia State Liaison Officer. We call on everyone to help Abia Women realise their goals,” she opined.
Highlights of the occasion included cultural dance and a special song rendition by the women, while the chief launcher, Chief Nkem Njoku, donated N200,000 to the association.
Chief Emmanuel Ekwuruibe , the President General, Abia State Town Unions Association, Lagos Branch, was among the dignitaries that graced the occasion.
