Unemployment and youth empowerment ...The 238 aides.

ad
Abia state for the first time since this third republic have been blessed with a leader that  hears the cry of his people. It is no longer news that Nigeria is in recession, neither is it news that the unemployment rate of this country is very high, with many abled bodied men out there ready to work but can't find something meaningful to do in order to help themselves and their family, the Federal government have been trying to proffer solution to this lingering problem same with past governments.

"No work for this country" is a very common phrase among Nigerian youths, with many getting involved in different illegal means to survive. In Abia state, Dr Ikpeazu in his attempt to keep his electoral promise have made attempts to  solve this problem  first with the Education For Empowerment scheme (E4E).

During the graduation ceremony of the Education For Employment (E4E) program in Umuahia the federal minister for labour,Dr. Chris Ngige, minister for science and technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu,Dr. Chukwuma Ifediaso Innocent of Innoson group, others were shocked by the success of the scheme and its role in job creation, they could not hide their excitement and  appreciated the Governor's efforts in tackling unemployment in the state.

Also in his effort to tackle unemployment in the state the Governor Ikpeazu just made an appointment of  238 aides.  This appointment is a welcome development as its one of the  means of reducing unemployment.

While critics are of the opinion that this appointment by the Governor is unnecessary, let me use this as a reminder that all over the country (apart from tackling unemployment)  there is a movement to involve the youths in politics, example is the reduction of the age to be able to contest election,What better way can we teach the youths, our leaders of tomorrow how to lead? among his appointees Dr. Ikpeazu made sure that over 80% are youths besides What better way can we teach the youths, our leaders of tomorrow how to lead, this appointment is a platform for the youths to showcase their potentials.

One may wonder, how the government have been able to cope with the salaries of those already employed judging by the little revenue allocated to the state with so many raising questions about the appointments.

As a reminder the Governor since swearing-in have slashed his salary and other allowances and also that of his commissioners and other aides by 50% with this sacrifices the Governor can boast to have paid over 80% of workers salaries in the state .

All I have to say is Dr. Ikpeazu, keep up the good work.
