PROFFERING PERMANENT SOLUTION TO ABA FLOODING; THE CAUSE OF ABA-OWERRI ROAD'S TEMPORARY TRAFFIC GRIDLOCK.
By Newman Ubani
Several inbox complaints of serious traffic logjam, which have persisted for a week or more now, along Aba-Owerri road and questions on what the government is doing about it set me on the road to Aba yesterday.
I was curious to uncover the cause of what one of the complainants termed "an unpalatable unsolicited situation". Of course Aba-Owerri road usually experience traffic holdup mostly in the morning, while people are going to work and evening, while they're going home, after some time, it will ease off, but, according to another complainant, this one seemed protracted, leading to many tongues wagging.
Getting to Enyimba city, I drove along Aba-Owerri road, there was nothing alarming about the traffic flow, not until I got to Brass junction, I cleared from the road, parked at the junction and trekked few meters - there was little hold-up but of a good course; Setraco, construction company handling Faulks roads in Aba was working to realize a lasting solution to perennial flooding experienced in Ariaria International Market and environs, hence the company was laying underground pipes to channel the Ukwu Mango/Ifeobara pond to a convenient point. After this holistic approach, it is strongly believed and anticipated that it will abate the flooding in Enyimba city.
It could be recalled that during the flagging off for construction of Faulks road, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu promised that the contract will permanently solve the issue of flooding within Ariaria and environs.
It is pertinent to note that the attempts by previous administrations to proffer solution to menace of this road was defeated by lack of proper drainage system which caused flooding in Aba and was never tackled.
It is indeed gladdening that Governor Ikpeazu emphasises on quality and durability of the roads constructed by his administration and at many fora, he has reiterated his resolve and commitment to deliver roads and amenities that will outlive his tenure. And to achieve this noble goal, this administration has always engaged proven and renowned construction giants to handle roads, etc. In addition to deploying the Cement Pavement Technology to the lexicon of road constructions in the State, to ensure durability and long life span of roads bequeathed to Abians.
In conclusion, the difficulties experienced in Aba-Owerri road presently is temporal, and one that will leap to unrestrained bliss and comfort.
And of course you can't make omelets without breaking the eggs – hence, the temporal inevitable traffic gridlock we will experience until the work is completed.
