Ohanaeze Ndigbo cautions Alex Otti, says his utterances are nothing but hate speeches
The youth wing of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Abia State chapter, on Thursday cautioned a former governorship candidate in the State, Dr. Alex Otti against making statements that would threaten peace in the State.
Otti contested for the Abia governorship seat on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.
He has lately been so critical of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s administration.
In a press statement by the Ohanaeze youth leader in the State, Comrade Okey Paul, he said the youths were not ready to condone any further distraction of the Governor, who he said had already been distracted with litigation for two years out of his four-year tenure.
He declared that "the time for politics is over; a winner for the Abia State Governorship seat did not only emerge through the ballot but was further affirmed by the apex court in the land, the Supreme Court of Nigeria in a unanimous judgement."
"We note that all other contenders to that seat, including Chief Uche Ogah have since closed ranks and declared their commitment to work with Governor Okezie Ikpeazu. We don't expect Otti to do less than to toe the same line by working with mutual cooperation with the current government.
"Like Nigeria's Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo said recently, makers of hate speeches would now be regarded as terrorists. It is out thinking that Otti would not want himself to be cut in the mold.
"As it stands, Otti's utterances are nothing else but hate speeches; but we warn here that any further of such, he would be regarded as a terrorist in line with the order of the Acting President.
"Once he is declared as a terrorist, we the people of Ngwa and particularly Isiala Ngwa South of Abia State, where Otti is residing at the mercy of Ndi Ngwa will declare him a persona non-grata."
"He cannot be in our place, and be making such utterances against the son of the soil, Chief Okezie Ikpeazu who is making giant strides in Abia State.
"If he is so much interested in the governorship seat, he should wait till 2019 and try his luck. For now, Abia State has a Governor and we can only have one at a time.
"If he so much loves Abia as he claims, he should close ranks forthwith and work with Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, whose performances in office are being lauded in Abia and beyond", Paul further stated.
He, however, called on the youths in the area to remain calm and not take laws into their hands against Otti, who he said was determined to cite violence in the State.
