Abia Attorney-General Tasks Stakeholders On Efficient Justice Delivery

Chief Ume Kalu, the Attorney-General of Abia, has urged stakeholders to be dutiful in the administration of criminal justice in order to establish a system where the law will take its full course.

Kalu said this on Monday in Umuahia during the opening ceremony of a two-day workshop organised by the Ministry of Justice for law officers, investigating police officers, prosecutors and security agencies.

“We have to get our acts right. No criminal is your friend whether you are a police officer or law officer. Criminals ought to be kept where they belong.”

Kalu added that investigation was the foundation of everything required to build a sound criminal justice delivery system, adding that a faulty investigation would result in serious setbacks.

He said that the workshop was necessitated by the need to identify the problems with criminal justice delivery in Abia as well as proffer solutions to them.

Kalu said it was expected that the participants would evolve a communique to address the problems militating against sound delivery of criminal justice.

In his remark, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Adeleye Oyebade, said that the workshop was a welcome development as it would strengthen the synergy among stakeholders.

Oyabade said that the workshop had given stakeholders ample opportunity to address the issues encountered in the course of administering criminal justice.

In separate interviews, some of the participants said that the workshop had provided a platform to enlighten Police officers on good case management strategies.

Mr Samson Onyemucheya, described the workshop as instructive because participants had been enlightened on practical approaches to criminal justice delivery.

Another participant, Mrs Rose Eze, said that the workshop would help law officers and prosecutors to deliver efficient service.

Eze said that the training would also contribute immensely to the enhancement of criminal justice administration in the state.

The theme of the workshop was “Fostering a Better Administration of Criminal Justice in Abia state: The investigator and Prosecutor”.
