Abia to eat home grown rice this year - Ogbonna

Abia State Commis­sioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Charles Ogbonnaya, has hinted that machinery has been put in motion to ensure that Abians are fed with rice grown in the state this year.
The Commissioner who disclosed this in an exclusive interview with The AUTHORITY yes­terday in Umuahia, said Gov Okezie Ikpeazu had already given a marching order to council chairmen whose land is good for growing rice to ensure that the target is met.


He said that the state government had rolled out plans to assist the affected councils.

“ Last year, we ate Eb­onyi rice but this year, we will eat Abia rice”, he said, adding that government will do everything to en­sure the success of the policy.”

He also said arrange­ments had been perfected to ensure every council produces crops that it has comparative advantage, explaining that a private firm is already partnering with Umunneochi LGA for cashew plantation in the area.
