"ABIA STATE HEALTH INSURANCE LAW ARE GETTING FINE TUNED BY THE STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY"- DR AHUKANNAH TELLS HEALTH MINISTERS
The honourable commissioner for health ,Abia state, Dr John Ahukannah has told the honourable minister of health, Prof. Isaac Adewole that the state ministry of health has a law ( Abia state health insurance law) being fine turned by the state house of assembly.
According to him ,the law which would be finalized in the next few weeks before the assent by the governor would subsequently get on with its strict implementation as the state already have in place the state insurance agency with offices abd requisite staff and chief executive in place , in add to having MOUs with HMOs.
Dr Ahukannah also reminded Prof. Adewole that Abia state is piloting the implementation of Community-driven Rapid Access Expansion Project (RACE) of the Integrated Community Case Management (ICCM) for southern Nigeria.
This project he said is being funded by the Canadian Government( Global Affairs, Canada) through WHO , with society for family health (SFH) as the development agency
Dr Ahukannah said that the Abia state has been a Jerusalem or Mecca of some sort for ICCM best practises which the last was from WHO representatives from Geneva , Switzerland.
He said that Abia state Tele-health Initiative which the honourable minister flagged off yesterday is bassed at the primary health centres, which ensures that every patient presenting to any primary health centre in the state has access to the medical doctor through ICT telephony opinion is currently undergoing pilot studies in 15 centres across the 3 senatorial zones of the state.
He informed the minister that from the onset he and his team in the state ministry of health leveraged on : Confidence building with partner /donor agencies, prioritization of health interventions, prudence in resource management, strengthening monitoring activities, thinking outside the box, embracing PPP arrangements, etc as action points in order to actuates the goals so far achieved.
He thanked the governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu his his support in prosecuting the 59th National Counci on Health.
"I am that king my principal, His excellency , Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu (PhD) for his support on this 59th National Council on Health. He led the task force that actualized in 6 days , the use of this edifice ( International Conference Centre) and all its appurtenances for this epoch making event . I thank you sir " he said.
