Orji urges Abia politicians to eschew violence
by Ugochukwu Ugoji-eke
The immediate-past governor of Abia State, Senator Theodore Orji, has decried what he described as divisive politics in the state, saying It is dangerous to the unity and progress of the state, as well as militating against its development.
He also cautioned politicians in the state on the need to play politics with caution, noting that politics should not be a do or die undertaking.
Orji’s message was contained in a statement signed by his Media Adviser, Norman Obinna, where the he also admonished the youths on the dangers of being willing tools in the hands of desperate politicians.
Orji urged the youths to eschew violence, as well as actions that are capable of encouraging hatred and conflict among them, saying no meaningful development can take place and sustained in a hostile environment.
The former governor, who is representing the Abia Central Senatorial District in the senate, also expressed worry over the level of hate messages and propagandas being sponsored and circulated in the media, wondering what the aim of those behind the messages could be.
He pleaded with the people responsible for the messages, which he said are designed to cause confusion among the people of the state to stop the act and begin to promote the spirit of unity and embark on projects that will engender peace and progress in the state.
“Instead of painting before our youths a state without a future, why don’t we support the government in harnessing the potentials that abound in Abia State to the best rewarding proportion?
“Instead of sponsoring lies against the government on traditional and social media, thereby heating up the polity, let’s educate the youths on how to set up small scale businesses through seminars and workshops and support them financially,” Orji said.
He maintained that leaders are not imposed on the people, but are elected by the people, and noted that a state reproduces its kind.
He, however, praised the youths of the state for being law- abiding in the face of the present economic hardship as a result of the recession and further assured those with innovative ideas of his support.
He reaffirmed his objective to eliminate class status and enthrone egalitarianism in his constituency through his annual scholarship scheme and other various youth empowerment programs, which have so far produced over 1000 beneficiaries.
