IKPEAZU, A SON OF THE SOIL ON THE SADDLE-UBANI
The fast-tracked development we’re witnessing today
under the administration of Gov. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu is
attributed to a ‘Son of the Soil on the Saddle’. Being a leader that
know this onions and coupled with his repertoire of knowledge in
administration have handled the issue of illegal structures in Aba
with high dexterity hence the creation of an agency (Aba Urban
Renewal Committee) to see to it.
WHAT NON ABIANS DON’T KNOW ABOUT WHAT IS PLAYING
OUT IN ABIA GOVERNORSHIP TUSSLE
The assumption of what many living in and outside the state who
are against the emergence of the incumbent Governor, Dr. Okezie
Victor Ikpeazu, think is playing out is quite different from the
notion of the indigenes from another political block.
No supporter of good is talking about party in this issue, but
rather the enemies of the state are hiding under the cloak of
political party to perpetrate disunity. I’m a lover of development,
who will at all time stand for justice, equity and fairness. It is
quite unfortunate that many chanting ‘change’ in this country do
not know when changes have arrived, and what it’s really is. There
is no doubt, that non Abians living in and outside the State can
hardly recall how democratic governance started in Abia State.
Going down the memory lane, in the political structure of Abia
State, the state charter of equity was initiated and the PDP that
took the reigns of power in 1999 has followed it religiously till
date. Though, that is not the issue under review now as anyone
can contest under any political platform, as we’re not practicing
one party system in Nigeria.
In Abia, we have 3 senatorial zones, namely, Abia North, Central
and South, among the 3 senatorial zones; Abia South is the
goose that lays the golden eggs as nearly all the internally
generated revenue of the state accrues from Aba in Abia South
senatorial zone. Other zone contributes little as they are not
commercially advantage.
Abia South is completely people of a particular grouped clan
know as Ukwa/Ngwa, while their remaining brothers fall under
Abia central senatorial zone. Amongst the 17 local government in
the State, the Ukwa/Ngwa people makes up 9 local governments
which are Isiala Ngwa North, Isiala Ngwa South, Obingwa,
Osisoma, Ugwunagbor, Aba North, Aba South, Ukwa East and
Ukwa west – living the other divide of the State with 8 local
governments who are from separate clans with different dialects
and culture. Other dialectical group of the State, knowing that the
income of the State is mainly generated from Ngwa land is jittery
that if an Ngwa person is allowed to govern the State, the
lopsided pattern of employment into the state’s civil service will
be reversed and that they will be dislodged from the being the
managers of Enyimba commercial city as that have been the
story. One may ask, how come they posses such ranks in all
spheres of the State’s endeavour? The issue dates back to 1999
when the Ngwas was robbed of the opportunity to take the
mantle of leadership by substituting Arch. Dan Nwankwo with Orji
Uzo Kalu due to his Abuja upper hand and the claims in some
quarters that he has been a major financier of PDP nationally.
Knowing fully well that if the Ngwas back a single candidate from
their block, they will perpetrate themselves in power thus
discarding the charter of equity agreement, as they have the
largest population, former governor Orji Uzo Kalu used his tenure
to commit several atrocity of nepotism and did few ‘abracadabra
roads’ in Aba, constructed better quality and higher kilometer
roads in his place which is in Abia North, same zone with Alex
Otti (opponent to Gov. Ikpeazu).
All markets in Aba which is in Ngwa land have never witnessed
and Ngwa indigene as its Chairman since 1999 unless by stiff
struggle and tussle, will one of the market’s leadership can be
given to an Ngwa indigene.
The worst of its all is that the leadership of two local
governments (Aba North and South) in Ngwa block has never
been chaired by an indigene of those local governments. One can
then wonder how people from other places will take over the
leadership of a people for such a period of time without
contributing to the development of the area or at least allowing
the natives the opportunity to have a taste of their inheritance.
Former governor of the State, Sen. T. A. Orji, once said that Aba
and Ngwa land in general can only witness development when an
Ngwa indigene take over the mantle of leadership from him, which
we thank God materialized. One may still wonder why our former
governor, Sen. T. A. Orji, took such a decision; the fact is now
clear and straight.

INEC declared who won the polls and merited the seat on all
fronts. But nepotism of the past in reflecting in a dimension that
outsiders can easily believe lies and can swear over what they
don’t have an idea of.
