Backstory of Aba road Umuahia

By: John Okiyi Kalu

Aba road Umuahia is a major entry point to Abia's capital for those coming from Aba, PH and even Owerri through Umuikaa junction.

Portions of the road between Isi Court and Uchenna junction defied previous efforts by administrations in Abia State since 1992 as the area fail shortly after normal fixing.

Until Governor Okezie Ikpeazu was elected Governor of Abia State.

The Governor opted to invite experts to study that portion of the road to ascertain why there was frequent road failures along that axis and it was discovered that water was seeping through the soil below the asphalt as a result of a historical natural water channel around the area.

Armed with the report from experts, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu invited grade A rated Arab Contractors to work on the road and re-engineer it so that the water can follow a new drainage path.

New culverts were constructed and one lane of the dual carriage road was elevated as further bulwark against rain water that will naturally impact the road.

Attached pictures show what Arab contractors has achieved so far.

Our people should start using both lanes of the important road in the first quarter of 2018.

Meanwhile another A-rated construction company, Hartland-Setraco, is also working at Umuahia. This time they are fixing a massive gully erosion that threatened large portions of land and properties at Umuda Isingwu Umuahia.

Other good local contractors are also working on other roads in Umuahia.

Remember this; one by one many key roads in Abia State will be fixed on the watch of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
