Govs to use INEC to recall Senators – Nwabaoshi

Senator Peter Nwaboshi (PDP, Delta) has cautioned Nigerians to pay close attention to the Independent

National Electoral Commission (INEC) because the way the recall process of Dino Melaye is hastened seems suspicious. He said if the move against Melaye succeeds, state governors would be emboldened to manipulate INEC to recall members of the National Assembly they have conflicts with.

Nwabaoshi who spoke in the Senate on Tuesday said: “The main issue is INEC, I want the Nigerian people to take note of what INEC is doing.

“The speed at which INEC is following this matter, the way INEC is going about it. It seems INEC is being tele-guided. Today they will release timetable, tomorrow they will do this. They are just doing as if INEC has been instructed to make sure Dino Melaye is recalled.

“The INEC people are being paid by the Nigerian people; it is the Nigeria’s money they are spending in that INEC. Whoever is in charge of operation in that INEC should be called to order. It means once you quarrel with a governor, he will sit down on his office and compile signatures and say that this person should be recalled.

“What is worrisome is the action of INEC, if the constituents want to recall Dino Melaye there are procedures but for INEC to be taking it as a personal challenge as if they are under instruction or carrying out a directive must be condemned by the Nigerian people.

Impunity must stop in this country, choosing the law to obey and the law not to obey. What is happening in impunity by somebody in the executive.”
