Gbenga Daniel rallies opposition to dislodge APC in Ogun come 2019
In a move towards 2019 governorship election in Ogun State, different political blocs have held a meeting on Thursday with former governor Gbenga Daniel rallying some forces to dislodge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The meeting was held at the conference hotel, Sagamu, had representatives of some of the governorship hopeful across different political party, Sen. Olamilekan Solomon (APC Lagos), Ladipupo Adebutu (PDP Ogun) and Gboyega Isiaka (PDP)
The coalition of people present at the meeting reflects a mixture of different people from different political parties with a vote of confidence on Gbenga Daniel as the leader that could deliver the governorship aspiration of the group.
Recall that the former governor has embarked on steps to reconcile with foes, especially the former president, Obasanjo.
Although the essence of the meeting remains unclear, it seems more like most of the candidates are seeking the endorsement of the former governor.
The gathering also had in attendance, Salmot Badru (former deputy governor), Titi Oseni (Former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly), Soyemi Coker, Jelili Amusan (Former Rep Member) Segun Osibote, Elder Akinhanmi, several commissioners during the administration of Gbenga Daniel and political leaders cutting across political party divides.
In his address, Gbenga Daniel called for unity of purpose while urging the stakeholders to be focused and work towards a grand coalition and also avoid formation of splinter political parties that will not be strong enough to gain power in the coming political dispensation.
According to him, “all hands must be on deck and everybody must work hard to bring back those that have left back to the fold and choose the best of candidates for the coming general election” he said.
He disclosed that “further consultations are ongoing both locally and nationally following the latest happenings in the polity while urging everyone to be alert as a definite political direction will soon be taken”
