10 Years After, Dr Nwafor Lives On...
All is now set for the 10th year memorial thanksgiving in honor of Dr. Chima Nwafor, the former Deputy Governor of Abia State, holding tomorrow at his country home in Umuojima village in Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State.
A renowned surgeon, the Late Dr Nwafor was a three time Deputy Governor in Abia State.
The late Dr. Nwafor first served as Deputy Governor to the First Civilian Governor of the State, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, from 1992 to 1993.
He was later appointed Deputy Governor under former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu in 2002 to complete Orji Kalu and Enyinnaya Abaribe's tenure, after the resignation of Chief Abaribe from the government.
In 2003, Dr. Nwafor was elected as Deputy Governor to Kalu during the second tenure of Orji Kalu, but died in office before the end of the tenure.
He was one of the brightest pillars of Abia State politics who also paid the supreme price for the emergence of an Ukwa-Ngwa man as the governor of Abia State.
In recognition of his role and contributions to the struggle for emancipation and development of Abia State, Abia State Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, recently honored him when he renamed Umuoijma Road in Osisioma area of Aba, after late Dr Chima Nwafor.
Late Dr. Nwafor was a native of Umuojima village in Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia state.
In marking his 10 years memorial anniversary, the family has built and donated a church to the Church of Nigeria Anglican Communion in Umuojima. The church building is expected to be dedicated tomorrow.
